Lucky Tyler, ladies man and hot-tempered hunk, comes to the rescue of Devon Haines, a beauty being bothered by two bumbling brawlers in a dive. When Devon is less than grateful for his help, Lucky is determined to wrangle a thank you. Then Devon turns into Lucky's alibi for a fire, but she has a secret, and she's not talking. Coleen Marlo's smoky voice is perfect for Devon and the story's narrator, but her attempts to portray Southern accents miss the mark, seeming more like parodies than portrayals. Furthermore, Lucky sounds like a petulant adolescent with a cold rather than a strong leading man. The result leaves the listener flat. A.C.P. (c) AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine
