A dog's purpose [sound recording - MP3 format] / W. Bruce Cameron.
This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog's search for his purpose over the course of several lives. More than just another charming dog story, this touches on the universal quest for an answer to life's most basic question: Why are we here? Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey's search for his new life's meaning leads him into the loving arms of 8 year old Ethan. During their countless adventures Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a beloved family pet is not the end of Bailey's journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders, will he ever find his purpose? Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh out loud funny, this book is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

Doggie reincarnation is what's in store for Bailey/Ellie/Buddy. The dog point of view is bemused and matter-of-fact as George Wilson takes us along for three rebirths, one as a girl dog. If you can buy into the premise of a feral stray coming back for second, third, and fourth helpings of life--first as a young boy's companion, then as a search-and-rescue hero, and finally as a black lab who connects again with the boy (now an old man)--you'll love this inside look at a canine. The dog is on the hunt for his purpose in life, but he (and possibly you, too) feels a bit worn out by the time he hits his fourth time out of the gate. Wilson's steady, sure voice will stay in your head as you look at your own dog. Has your pup lived with someone else before you? How do you compare? The metaphysical ramifications may have you chasing your own tail. M.M.C. (c) AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine - AudioFile Reviews : AudioFile Reviews 2017 July
Ann Marie Lee is the voice of Bella, a puppy of indeterminate breed who was found under the crawl space of a building by "her person," Lucas. Lee's youthful-sounding voice matches the thoughts and actions of the exuberant puppy who's eager to do her job of being a good dog and comforting people at the veteran's hospital where Lucas works. But trouble arises in the form of an angry dogcatcher who insists that Bella is a pit bull, a breed that is illegal in Denver. Bella ends up in a foster home far from Denver--and runs away. Lee's narration captures her determination to find Lucas as she travels hundreds of miles over two years. Even though some scenes border on being clichŽd, this is still an uplifting story of hope and perseverance. M.M.G. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine
